Escola de Músics anniversary

JUNE 19 2023

On June 19th, the thirtieth anniversary of l'Escola de Músics was celebrated at the Liceu theater. It was a very special event for both the school and us.

We got to know many members of their choir during our participation in "La Gata Perduda" and we shared rehearsals together. Some of us became close friends, and on this special day, we had the honor of being invited to sing "L'Himne del Raval" with them.

We also took part in a song where we had to throw paper planes towards the audience. They were filled with lovely messages, and seeing the planes fly from the boxes created a touching image in the theater.

The concert was amazing, and we had the opportunity to see the entire school in action: the different bands, all the instruments, the variety of ages among the students and their teachers.

From here, we want to express our gratitude to l'Escola de Músics and especially to Cristina Colomer, for inviting us and considering us for such an important celebration for them. We also congratulate them on their great work throughout all these years, and for the years to come!

Independence Day

JUNE 11 2023

Once again this year, we celebrated Philippine Independence Day on June 11 (originally June 12, 1898). But unlike last year, this time the entire choir was able to come together on this great holiday to not only be the audience, but also to give their all on stage!

Another different thing from the other years, is that this time it was held in Moll de la Fusta, when the iconic location of this festival party has always been in the Plaça dels Àngels in front of the MACBA.

Our first performance was to sing our hymn "Lupang hinirang" with other choirs from our community, being led by one of our members. After this, our next appearance was at the fashion show. This was an exhibition of different garments inspired by our traditional clothing. Our members mesmerized the audience with their walk and presence!

The third event Kudyapi participated in was the Dance Competition, where six of our members danced to a remix of traditional and modern Filipino songs. First, we performed Tinikling, one of the most popular dances done with bamboo sticks. Then, Cariñosa, a dance where women hold fans and men have hats. Ending the traditional dances, we performed Pandanggo, a dance performed with lit candles in each hand. These were presented gracefully in traditional clothing, and we ended the disposition with an upbeat, more modern dance. Taking part in this competition were five other groups, who all performed impressively and energetically.

There was also a "harana" competition in which 2 of our members participated. "Harana" is an ancient courtship tradition in the pre-colonial and colonial times in the Philippines wherein one serenades one's desired partner by singing to him/her. The duo that represented us, captivated us with an acoustic remix of various love songs in Tagalog. The guitar accompanied by the harmonies of the two voices was the perfect combination to make the audience's hair stand on end.

This year, Kudyapi was able to proudly contribute and participate in the celebration of the Philippines' Day of Independence! Through our presentations, hopefully we were able to honor the celebration and bring smiles to people's faces. We hope to be able to bring the same energy next year!
