In the month of May, a festival called “Flores de Mayo” is celebrated in the Philippines, it is one of the devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary and it lasts the whole month. This festival became part of Filipino traditions identified with youth, love, and romance. Santacruzan, the ritual parade, takes place on the last day of the festival. It is based on representing the biblical and historical figures, with traditional personifications, Marian titles and prominent titles, by couples from different communities.
This year Fenina and Ralph participated in the parade on behalf of the choir. Fenina represented the figure "Queen of Charity", which is the symbol of charity, the third theological virtue, she carries a red heart or the image of the Sacred Heart. Ralph accompanied her throughout the event.
Normally, in the parades held in the San Agustín church, a route is made through a small part of the city. This year was very different, there was only a short walk around the church square. The square was surrounded by the representatives of the figures and there was a short program showing some traditional dances and songs in the center of the square. After the parade, there was a mass in celebration of the day.
It is a very beautiful event since the different communities meet for a common goal: to celebrate Mary. It is a festival filled with many colors, music and symbols representing the various Biblical figures.
On July 28, 2018, a couple invited us to sing at their wedding. They are Jonatan and Raquel. Years passed and they had a son named David. We were lucky that they invited us again to sing at their son's baptism.
The baptism was done at the Mare de Déu de la Bonanova Parish, on May 6. We sang during the mass and on some occasions only Ralph, Jomari and Nina sang. It was touching just to think that, despite the years, they will choose us again to sing on a unique and important day for their son.
It was a special and beautiful event, we also had the opportunity to be able to sing in another church and it was also an honor to sing again for them.
