Mental Health

SEPTEMBER 29 2023

On Friday, September 29, I was one of the choir representatives along with Krisha to attend a talk about mental health.

The talk was very interesting, it is about how our own Filipino community affects our mental health, especially in the new generation. Currently we talk more about the subject and I think it is important to do so because there are many people who suffer from this. There were few people in the talk, although in my opinion it was better for me, since this way you could open up and express yourself better. We were all Filipinos and we were the only ones younger.

Still, they invited us to the talk and made us feel comfortable. Although there was an age difference between us, they made us feel pleasant and we were able to take advantage of that talk, since there are many factors that cause not having good mental health. For me it is essential to talk about these things because this has a great impact on young people today.

Family Day

SEPTEMBER 3 2023

On Sunday, September 3rd, the choir hosted one of the most eagerly anticipated events: the Family Day. On this occasion, choir members came together to share experiences with their peers, engaging in entertaining activities that strengthened the bonds among them. Due to the forecasted rain, we decided to hold Family Day inside the Sports Arena of Les Tres Xemeneies. Each group was assigned a color name, and members were required to wear distinctive garments in their respective colors.

Cheerleading

To start the fun off, each team performed a special cheer that they had prepared a little while before. We drew lots to decide the order of the cheers. The Blue Team went first. Led by a tita, they enthusiastically shouted a chant they had composed. Next went the Red team, who danced a cool dance led and choreographed by Ana. After them the Green team followed, and with the music playing in the background, everyone had a different role in their cheer, some girls dancing, others in the back supporting and the parents cheering on the side with handmade banners. Last but not least, went the Yellow team. Ate Patty had prepared several small but energetic dances, and even the parents had their own dance.

Handkerchiefs 1

In the handkerchief game, two teams compete for points. Each member is assigned a number. A player in the middle holds a handkerchief and shouts a number. The players with that number run to steal the handkerchief without being touched by the opponent. In the first round, the Green team lost to the Yellow team, and in the second round, the Reds defeated the Blues. Afterward, the losers (Green and Blue) competed, as did the winners (Yellow and Red). The Yellows came in first, followed by the Reds, the Blues in third place, and the Greens in last.

Basketball

The longest but no doubt the most memorable of the games was the basketball tournament. Everyone was hyped as the matches started. First, the Green team went head on head against the Yellow team. It was a tough match but in the end the Green team succeeded to the next round. In the next match Red played against blue. Both teams had great and experienced players, and pushing forward the Red team seized the win. The last two rounds winners played winners and losers played losers. We started off with the losing teams, and Blue beat Yellow. The final and most dramatic round, Green faced off against Red, and stole the win.

Pass the ball

In the game, the teams line up in rows of 12 people and pass a ball successively from one end to the other. When the ball reaches the end, that person swaps positions with the opposite person, forming a loop. Despite some cheating, the final results were surprising, with the Reds in first place, followed by the Blues, Greens, and the Yellows in last place.

Handkerchiefs 2

Another game we played with handkerchiefs was a very entertaining one that required lots of teamwork. Several handkerchiefs were tied together to form a hoop, and each team took turns and lined up in one line holding hands. The objective was for everyone to pass through the handkerchief hoop without letting go of each other until it reached the last person, and the team who achieved this in the shortest amount of time wins. Surprising everyone, the Green team won the challenge.

Awarding ceremony

After finishing the games, we all proceeded outside for the awarding ceremony, and everyone received medals. In first place, the proud and hardworking Green team, tied for second, the Red and Yellow team. And lastly, the Blue team. Everyone received medals accordingly and good sportsmanship was displayed between teams. There was also rankings in the cheering routines from earlier on, and the Green team one first, while Yellow team was first runner up, Blue was second and Red was last.

In conclusion, we thoroughly enjoyed all the planned activities during our Family Day and sports fest. We bonded and got to know each other more through team work, team effort, and displayed good sportsmanship and ended the day in high spirits. Fortunately, every family went home with a smile on their face.
